The first thing to be said about this movie is that it has sparked a huge influx of information around the internet making sure that everyone knows that "we only use 10% if our brain is a myth." That's great. Knowledge is power. Frankly, there are other flaws in this film's plot including other scientific impossibilities. Pointing that out whilst slamming the film doesn't make me more intelligent.
After all, Spider-man hinges on a radioactive spider. Hulk exists because of exposure to Gamma Rays.
In the 50's and 60's (and surrounding years) we had an influx of Science Fiction films that hinged on exposure to radioactive environments or nuclear bomb clouds. It was something people didn't understand completely, could bring fear, and that scientists were learning about and quickly. I happen to love those movies...
Now we have several films where DNA trickery or leads to odd and superhuman strangeness. Granted these mainly rely upon things that scientists know more about than the average person, but because we eat bits and pieces science through Ted Talks, Facebook Groups like "I Fucking Love Science", and Scientific American blog posts without question or additional research, we think we're all scientists, experts, and highly intelligent.
Yet, I still maintain my earlier points. We know there is no such thing as a radioactive spider that can bite a human teen and make him take on spider-like traits. It's ridiculous.
We also know humans use far more than 10% of our brains. It doesn't mean I'm unable to enjoy the movie.
Morgan Freeman is not God. He's kind of fun to watch and in public he seems like a fun guy who doesn't care what anyone thinks, but he's also done shit movies and half the time his role isn't really all that pivotal or special (Now You See Me was great!)
I do have a little crush on Scarlett Johansson which can easily be coloring my opinion of this film.
In the end, I liked it.
OR take on a totally different perspective. The drug name was bullshit because in reality, she couldn't remember the name of the drug some Yakuza dude put inside her; so she made up something resting in the back of her brain she had heard in some college class she mentioned taking at the beginning of the movie. The rest of the movie was a high she was on due to some new, pumped up version of LSD. LSD is known to make people think they are smart, and capable of super-human things. Submitted for your approval to prove this point? Right after the drug leaks through her body, she hijacks a doctor's phone and tells her mom she can feel her skin and remember breast milk. Ever been in a room with someone on acid? This is EXACTLY the kind of shit they say. (Be the smart one. Watch the person on acid from a sober perspective. It's way more entertaining!)
